Day 13 - Manitowaning ON to Collingwood ON

Wow, is it really day 13 already, just over 1 week till we arrive at our destination.

Early morning start in order to get to the ferry. Our reservation required us to be there 1 hour in advance of our 0900 sailing. That computes to a rather ugly 0600 alarm.
Thankfully this is the exception and not the rule.

It was a foggy start to the day but as we drove down to South Baymouth the fog started burning off, well at least in parts.
The ferry appeared to be late as we stared eastwards only to be shocked by the fact it was behind us.
Guess I should have looked at the map a little more.
We camped out on the upper deck for the 1:50 sail. Unfortunately some places were quite cool where the fog lingered.

We arrived in Tobermory and wandered around the town. We had contemplated doing a snorkel trip. This part of Lake Huron is very, very clear and over the years has had quite a number of ships sink.
Unfortunately not having booked in advance we were unable to go so instead we headed off to one of the beaches in the Bruce Peninsula National Park. I just basked in the sun while Julie waded out several miles (ok, bit of an exaggeration) but the water still was only to her knees.

Later in the afternoon we drove to Collingwood where we were going to spend the night.
During the drive we went through Wiarton. Wiarton is home to Wiarton Willy the Canadian Albino weather prognosticator (the Canadian version of Punxsutawney Phil, the star of Groundhog Day).

Following a failed dinner last night (no restaurants) we were excitedMabout the local BBQ joint.
I checked the map only to discover that literally across the road was the Northwinds Brewhouse and eatery. We checked the ratings and it looked good and so we headed off.
Dinner was awesome as were the beers. We tried a dark saison ale, oatmeal porter ( both drunk in lieu of desert) an English mild (very rare in N.America) and an Americal citrus wheat. All in all the beers were first rate.

Interesting note is that this Brewhouse brews 14 ales and you can try them all. They all come in 5oz glasses delivered in a skate board drilled for the occasion.

Hopefully I get a sleep-in tomorrow morning, luckily it's a short drive to Toronto.

  2. It was a fluke find but we were really happy and were not disappointed.
Generally every town we look to see if there's a brewpub close by.
