The plan was to visit the bustling resort town of Gimli on lake Winnipeg.
Unfortunately we were unable to find any accommodation so had to scoot an hour around the lake to a hotel in a place called Scanterbury.
Gimli is now the home of Julie's friend Connie and her husband Dave who we spent a pleasant afternoon with. We met them at a restaurant on the lake where they very kindly bought us lunch.
Julie and I both had pickerel a local prairie lake fish we obviously don't get in Vancouver.
It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm and we walked along the beach on the west side of the lake.
Being such a lovely day It was difficult to imagine Gimli in the winter with the frozen lake which hosts ice fishermen, car races and a whole bunch of other activities.
Gimli was first settled by Canadian Icelanders and later by Icelandic immigrants that's why I have included a picture of Dave and Connie with a huge Icelandic warrior statue.
